Meet Miles Kendall! Miles was the head coach of the Varsity boy’s basketball team at North Hall High School as well as a teacher through the 22-23 school year. He enjoys knowing he has the opportunity to pour into his students and players. His hope is that he will be able to make an impact in their lives. Miles has been married to his wife Avery for 14 years. They have three kids: Owen, Rob, and Isla. His family is his biggest inspiration.

We are so thankful that Miles took the time out of his day for the betterment of the Faces of North Hall High School campaign.

Q: Tell us about your career and what you love most about what you do.

A: “I teach and coach basketball as well as football this year. I chose it because I wanted to stay in athletics, especially with working in basketball, I love the sport so much. And, choosing to teach and coach combines my passions: working with young people, teaching the game, and teaching them life. There are bigger things than school and basketball out there.”

Q: What are a couple of your favorite restaurants in our community?

A: “I like Bluefin, it’s really good. I like any place that has a good steak. I also like Mexican food, and Senor Fiesta is really good.”

Q: Who is the most interesting person you’ve met here in our community?

A: “If I’m gonna go back in time, some people may know Matthew and Luke Gunter. I got introduced to them really quickly and they’re two of a kind. I had never met anyone like them, nor will I ever again. That was kind of a welcome-to-North Hall moment. Very interesting guys, but awesome kids that work hard and care. And, on the surface, they’re a little wild, but they’re pretty awesome kids. When you say interesting, that’s the first name that comes to my mind.”

Q: If you could travel anywhere in the world right now, where would it be and why?

A: “I would want to go to the beach somewhere, like Hawaii, something tropical. It’s been a little while since we’ve been to the beach and done something as a family like that. Hawaii would be cool.”

Q: What is one of your favorite movies or TV shows?

A: “Right now I’ve been obsessed with House of the Dragon, it’s a spinoff of Game of Thrones. It’s been amazing, when you watch one episode you’re ready to watch the next. I just watched the Thor movie the other day and it was also pretty good.”

Q: What advice would you want to give or leave with people?

A: “Stay true to yourself. I noticed when I had the most success and felt best about the way things were going in my life was when I quit trying to please people and being someone I was not. Just be yourself, and have something strong you can rely on, whether it’s your faith, it’s God, it’s church, or it’s your family or friends to rely on when things get tough. Keep showing up, and keep grinding because one bad day could be followed up with a lot of good days. “

Q: Where do you see yourself in 5-10 years?

A: “Probably doing the same thing, just older and fatter. Still coaching and teaching here, and my overall short-term goal is hopefully to be a good example for my kids and showing them how they’re supposed to act as they get older. And also, with the kids, I teach to continue to be better, better than I am now. Still hopefully coaching basketball at a high level.”

Q: Who inspires you to be better?

A: “My wife and my daughter. My daughter went through a crazy situation, so just watching how my wife handled that and how she handles our family. Those two are probably the most inspirational for me.”
