Meet Sydney Thurman! Sydney competed in the DECA Region 2 competition and won 1st place in Quick Serve Restaurant Management. She went on to compete at state and placed in the top eight; we look forward to sending her to our international competition in April. Sydney is a part of the class of 2026, she is involved in ATLAS, DECA, BETA Club, Golf, NG3, and is the team manager for Softball. After graduation, she plans to attend school to pursue a career in law.

Q: Please tell us about your future career. Why does that career Interest you?

A: “I want to be a lawyer in the future. I’m interested in helping people get justice and making their lives better.”

Q: What three words or phrases come to mind when you think ‘NHHS’?

A: “Probably energetic, traditional, and successful.”

Q: What are you involved in at North Hall

A: “I am involved in ATLAS, DECA, BETA club, Golf, NG3, and I am the team manager for the Softball team.”

Q: What is your favorite thing about North Hall

A: “My favorite thing would probably be the athletics and how many opportunities it gives you to succeed.”

Q: What are some of your hobbies and interests?

A: “I enjoy hanging out with my friends, shopping, going to Church, and spending time in God’s word.”

Q: What advice would you give a crowd of people?

A: “I would say that it always gets better, so never stop working and never give up.”

Q: Who is your favorite teacher or faculty member at North Hall?

A: “My favorite faculty member is Coach Molly Johnson. She has done so much for the softball program here and I wouldn’t rather be a team manager for anyone else!”

Q: Who is your mentor or role model?

A: “I would say that Jesus is my role model. In every situation I am faced with, I think about how He would handle it.”

Q: Please tell us a little bit about your family.

A: “My mom, Traci, graduated from UNG and my dad, Will, graduated from Western Carolina. My little brother, John, plays basketball and football. As a family, we have moved 3 times and came to North Hall in June 2021. We have loved it here since!”

Q: What are a couple of your favorite restaurants in our community, and what do you love there?

A: “Farmhouse Coffee is one of my favorites! I am a huge coffee shop person and Farmhouse is above many of the ones I’ve been to!’

Q: If you could travel anywhere right now, where would it be and why?

A: “Greece. I’ve always wanted to go and the scenery is beautiful! There are so many different parts you can visit too.”

Q: What is one of your favorite movies or TV shows?

A: “My favorite TV show is Gilmore Girls. I love watching is because it reminds me of fall.”

Q: What is something on your bucket list?

A: “Something on my bucket list is to travel to at least 10 countries.”

Q: What local business makes you the most nostalgic about our community and why?

A: “I haven’t lived here long enough to be very nostalgic about a business, but Dari Spot has a very nostalgic feel to it. It reminds me of a place I used to eat when I was little.”

Q: Choosing anyone (past or present), with whom you would love to have lunch and why? Where locally would you meet for this lunch?

A: “I would choose to eat lunch with my aunt Chic. She passed away before I was born, but based off of the stories my family has told me about her I would love to meet her. We would probably go to Farmhouse.”

Q: Where do you see yourself in 5 to 10 years?

A: “I see myself studying law in university/law school.”

Q: What is the most beautiful place you have ever been?

A: “California is so pretty. It really depends on where you go, but we drove through some really beautiful places there.”

Q: What would you rate a 10 out of 10?

A: “Coffee. It’s one of my favorite things.”
