Meet Jim Robison, better known as Dr. Rob. Dr. Rob is an English teacher at North Hall High School. He grew up in Atlanta and moved to Nashville, Tennessee, where he went to college at Vanderbilt University. He has a wife, Louise, who he describes as “the best person I know.” Dr. Rob also has 4 kids: Lee, Vaughn, Ginny, and Emily. In addition to his 4 children, he has 8 grandchildren. His children reside in Florida and Michigan, which is why he loves it when they are able to visit. Dr. Rob is also the proud owner of his dog, Leo. He is an admirable teacher at North Hall and pushes his students to excel academically.

Q: Where do you see yourself in 5-10 years?
A: “At some point, I’ll retire. I’ve tried before and that didn’t take. At that point my wife and I will travel to Northern Italy and Scotland.”
Q: What is your favorite thing or something you find unique about our community?
A: “I like the closeness to the mountains. I think the Native Americans had it right, God is easier to find in the mountains.”
Q: What is something on your bucket list?
A: “I have not seen nearly enough of the National Parks.”
Q: What is the most beautiful place you have ever been to?
A: “I don’t have a specific place, but I guess my best experiences happen when I’m in the mountains and on white water.”
Q: Who would you want to play in a movie?
A: “My students have cast me as the old guy in UP.”
Q: Who inspires you to be better?
A: “Wendell Berry, he’s a great writer. He does not speak as a religious figure, but I think he’s a prophet. He is saying what’s true and necessary. Most of our nation will not listen. He writes all kinds of literature; novels, poems, essays, but his essays are the most important. He’s a great essayist.”
Q: Did any of your family attend North Hall?
A: “No, I grew up in Atlanta. My family is from Nashville, Tennessee. I consider Nashville and Atlanta home. I was there in college and I was there teaching both in high school and college.”
Q: What are three words or phrases that come to your mind when someone says North Hall?
A: “Big, I spent most of my life in smaller schools, busy, full of possibilities.”
Q: What is your favorite movie or TV show?
A: “Most Steven Spielberg movies.”
Q: If you could choose anyone that is alive today and not a relative, who would you have lunch with, and why?
A: “Wendell Berry, James Taylor, and Yo-Yo Ma because they have all made great art and have good souls.”
Q: What advice would you want to leave with people?
A: “Talk is cheap and action is vital”
