Meet Mr. Self. Mr. Self has been a teacher here at North Hall for the better part of a decade. He teaches Honors, AP, and IB Physics and Math and is the coach of the North Hall High School Fishing team. Outside of school he loves spending time with his wife and two kids, and enjoys hunting and fishing.

The North Hall High School Marketing class would like to thank him for his time and for letting us learn a bit about him.

Q: Please tell us a bit about your current career. What do you love most about what you do?

A: “I am a High School physics and math teacher. What I enjoy most about it is getting to interact with the kids, and everyday is different. I enjoy diving into hard content like math and physics, and my schedule allows me to spend time with my family with weekends off, holidays off, things like that.

Q: What are a couple of your favorite restaurants in our community?

A: “Señor Fiesta, that’s a good one. Another good one, let me think, Reid’s. Breakfast at Reid’s and Señor Fiesta for lunch and dinner. “

Q: How long have you lived or worked in our community?

A: “I live in Dahlonega, but I’ve worked here for 9 years.”

Q: What advice would you want to give or leave with people?

A: “For a Senior, my advice would be that college is not for everyone, but it’s also not a bad thing. Some people absolutely refute college, others say you do, but you don’t have to do college. It’s important to have a goal in mind. Also, keep in mind that jobs aren’t all about money.”

Q: Where do you see yourself in 5-10 years?

A: “Teaching physics and math at North Hall High School.”

Q: What is something on your bucket list?

A: “I want to go small-mouth bass fishing on the St. Lawrence river in New York. It’s a great fishery full of very large small-mouth bass.”

Q: What is your go to band when you can’t decide what to listen to?

A: “Probably any classic rock, it’s always good. Journey, Van Halen, Pink Floyd, ACDC, old stuff like that.”

Q: What would you rate a 10 out of 10?

A: “The GA Bulldogs football season so far is a 10 out of 10. They’re undefeated, ranked number 1. Knock on wood.”

Q: Who inspires you to be better?

A: “My wife and my Grandmother are the two main ones that come to mind. They push me, hold me accountable.”

Q: What are 3 words or phrases you think about when you hear “North Hall High School?”

A: “Community, Tradition, and Academics.”
