Meet Deana Harper! Mrs. Harper was at North Hall High School for 26 years and now is the CTAE Assistant Director for Hall County Schools. She has experience as a teacher, work-based learning coordinator, and CTAE/STEM Coordinator at North Hall High School. We are excited for her new role and are thankful for her leadership!
Mrs. Harper shared with us that three of her children went to NHHS. She absolutely glows when she talks about her family and her faith. We would like to thank Mrs. Harper for her time with us and contributions to North Hall.
Q: What are you involved in at North Hall?
A: “Well I started teaching at North Hall in August of 1997 and taught computer science for a while. Then I also taught business law and personal finance for a while. During my career, I was able to use the skills and knowledge that I got from traveling from my previous job and was able to translate that to the classroom really well. After about 9 years of teaching I was able to get the Work-Based Learning program to North Hall back when it wasn’t widely available. North Hall at the time was only one of 10 schools selected.”
Q: Please tell us a little bit about your family.
A: “All three of my kids are North Hall graduates with my oldest, Hillary, graduating in 2009, my middle child Hamilton graduating in 2011, and my youngest Harrison graduating in 2016. Hillary actually was a Marketing student here and able to get a full ride scholarship to the Fashion Institute of Design and Merchandising in California and it was an amazing opportunity for her.
Q: What is something on your bucket list?
A: “It’s kind of simple really but it’s just something I’ve never taken the time to do; I really want to go to the Florida Keys. I love clear water and white sand, it seems simple but it’s something I’ve never done”
Q: Who is the most interesting person you have met in our community?
A: “We have a lot of really amazing people in our community, I feel like it would be hard to choose just one. We’re still very close with a lot of the parents and people we met when our children were coming through school, we still have a little dinner club that gets together once a quarter at least.”
Q: What advice would you want to give or leave with people?
A: “Take advantage of exploring opportunities in high school and take advantage of those experiences. I think it’s important, it can help students navigate their future and maybe really set the course for their future.”
Q: What is your favorite North Hall tradition?
A: “Senior banners on the fence is my favorite but there are a lot. I love painting the tower; I love how active our student body is at football and basketball games in the student section; I also love the homecoming parade and yearbook day. Overall North Hall is just a really fun and inviting community.”
Q: What are a couple of your favorite restaurants in our community?
A: “The restaurant that I go to most consistently is probably Waffle House. Dari Spot, I love Poor Richards – they’re kind of a staple, and Longstreet.”
