Meet Colton Major. Mr. Major is a History teacher here at North Hall High School. One of the things on Mr. Major’s bucket list is to go to Israel to see the buildings and experience the cultural shock. One thing Mr. Major loves about his career is that he gets to create bonds with his students and he wants to be the teacher that people remember when they leave North Hall.
North Hall High School Marketing would like to thank Mr. Major for his time with us today.
Q: Please tell us a little bit about your family.
A: “I have a 1-year-old daughter and my wife, Sarah, a teacher at Blue Ridge Middle School, teaches mathematics. We have been married for two years now and we met in college. When we got married we moved back up to Blue Ridge to move closer to family.”
Q: Who is the most interesting person you’ve met here in our community?
A: “Bubba Little, Bubba was amazing at what he did here at North Hall, he took great care of this school and had an unforgettable character.”
Q: What advice would you want to give or leave with people?
A: “The first piece of advice I would say is don’t give up. As you go through high school you are going to have so many ups and downs so, on the days that are the toughest, don’t give up. Also, you have to make every day count. If you can go home and you can answer the question “How did I make my day count?” Then you know you had a good day. If your today is bad, tomorrow will be better. “
Q: Where do you see yourself in 5 to 10 years?
A: “Still teaching, hopefully still here at North Hall, I’ll probably have another child, and I hope to continue to build relationships with students in this community. Especially for a teacher living so far away it makes every mile worth it here. “
Q: What is something on your bucket list?
A: “I would love to travel to Moscow to see the architecture and I would also like to go see the Himalayas.’
Q: What is something that you have been proud to check off your bucket list?
A: “Following my career, that’s for sure on my bucket list. I have had this well-lit passion for wanting to be a teacher and it’s always been on my bucket list to pursue my dream, and that’s to be a teacher and influence all my students.”
Q: What is your go-to band when you can’t decide what to listen to?
A: “The Beetles, I have always been a Beetles fan ever since I was a kid. My dad and I used to go to Athens and we would always find Beetles albums and it didn’t matter what they would cost we would always get them.”
Q: What is the most beautiful place you’ve ever been?
A: “So far probably the most beautiful place I’ve ever been to is Cozumel, Mexico. The water was absolutely stunning and the people were beyond friendly.”
Q: Who inspires you to be better?
A: “Before my daughter was born it was Coach Haynes. He was a mentor to me and he taught me so much about how to be the teacher that I am now. But, nowadays it’s my daughter, she is literally my inspiration every day I wake up.”
